God calls His people to invest in their community, not escape from it. When God’s people were exiled in Babylon, He told them to settle down, build houses, and seek the peace of the city. We’ll discuss what it looks like to contribute, serve, and make our neighborhoods better because we’re there.

Neighborhood Prayer Guide

Love Where You Live – Week 3: Build, Plant, Bless 

“Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too

will prosper.”— Jeremiah 29:7

How to Use This Guide

• Walk, drive, or simply sit in your neighborhood and pray.

• Keep your eyes open—notice people, homes, schools, and businesses.

• Pray specifically. Ask God to bless your neighbors by name if you know them.

• Remember: You’re asking for shalom—God’s wholeness, peace, and flourishing.

Homes & Families

• Pray for marriages to be strong and healthy.

• Pray for children to grow in safety, joy, and hope.

• Pray for households struggling financially, emotionally, or spiritually.

· Pray for families affected by deportations. 

Joshua 24:15 ‒ “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Schools & Teachers

• Pray for teachers to have wisdom, strength, and encouragement.

• Pray for students to be safe, curious, and eager to learn.

• Pray for schools to be places of growth and peace.

Proverbs 22:6 ‒ “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” 

Workplaces & Businesses

• Pray for integrity and fairness in local businesses.

• Pray for employers to provide opportunities and stability.

• Pray for the unemployed or underemployed to find provision and purpose.

Deuteronomy 28:12 ‒ “The Lord will bless all the work of your hands.”

Community Leaders & Servants

• Pray for local leaders, police, firefighters, and healthcare workers.

• Pray for wisdom, justice, and compassion in decision-making.

· Pray for community groups that are organizing against families being split up.

• Pray for unity and peace in community leadership.

1 Timothy 2:1‒2 ‒ “Pray for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives.”

Neighbors by Name

• Pray for 3–5 specific neighbors, coworkers, or friends.

• Pray for open doors for conversations and relationships.

• Pray that you can be a light and encouragement in their lives.

Matthew 22:39 ‒ “Love your neighbor as yourself.” 

Final Prayer

Lord, thank You for planting me here. Help me to see my neighborhood the way You see it. Teach me to build, plant, and bless so that my street, my city, and my community might flourish. Let Your Kingdom come here as it is in heaven. Amen
